About The Position

The Ferrari lab at Penn State is seeking up to two Postdoctoral Scholars to work on computational and mathematical models of surveillance to guide vaccination programs to achieve and maintain disease elimination. This work will primarily focus on Gates Foundation funded projects to support vaccination and control programs for measles and rubella (in humans) and/or foot-and-mouth disease (in livestock). We will be developing both general methods for spatial targeting of surveillance and reactive vaccination that are agnostic to system and working with in-country partners in DRC and India (and others) to tailor methods to specific human and veterinary public health applications. Scholars will also be members of the diverse community of infectious disease researchers at the Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics (cidd.psu.edu) and be expected to participate in Center activities.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field (such as Ecology, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Epidemiology (human or veterinary), Public Health, Physics, Computer Science)
  • History of productivity

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with stochastic simulation and model fitting to temporal and spatial infectious disease data is preferred.
  • Familiarity with R is preferred, though the successful candidate will have freedom to develop analyses and models in the language in which they are most proficient.
  • Experience in communicating quantitative analyses to a non-technical audience and experience working with large collaborative groups is an advantage.
  • It is likely that this position will involve international travel for extended periods (weeks).
