About The Position

The Department of Mathematics in Penn State's Eberly College of Science is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar beginning Summer 2026. The successful candidate will work with Professor Alberto Bressan in the areas of hyperbolic conservation laws and geometric optimization problems. These include: well-posedness, convergence and error estimates for approximate solutions, analysis of singularities, optimal control, and applications to macroscopic models of traffic flow. Teaching may be required.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have recently completed a Ph.D.
  • Applicants must have exceptional research potential.
  • Candidates will be considered with background in the areas of hyperbolic PDEs and optimization problems.
  • Applicants must complete the Penn State application and must submit an application through Mathjobs.org (mathjobs.org) with the following materials in order for the application to be complete: Cover letter, Curriculum Vitae, At least three reference letters submitted on Mathjobs.org (one letter must address in detail the candidate’s abilities as a teacher), Publication List, Research Statement, Teaching Statement
  • The Penn State system limitations allow for a total of 5 documents (5mb per document) as part of your application. Please combine materials as needed to meet the 5-document limit on your Penn State application.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in numerical simulations (with Matlab or Python) will be valued.
