About The Position

The Postdoctoral Scholar position at Northern Arizona University (NAU) is a full-time research role focused on the science of bacterial evolution. The incumbent will engage in both theoretical research and potential translational applications, with a significant emphasis on phylogenomic and bioinformatic analysis of bacterial populations, whether in natural settings or controlled laboratory experiments. While prior experience in these areas is beneficial, training will be provided at the Pathogen Microbiology Institute (PMI). The role requires strong communication and critical thinking skills to effectively convey research findings to both local and international scientific communities. Additionally, the position involves participating in team or independent grant writing to secure research funding, as well as mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, aligning with NAU's mission to foster student development. The responsibilities of the position are divided among various tasks, including writing scientific manuscripts and grants, communicating research progress to diverse audiences, conducting laboratory and computational research, and mentoring students. The scholar will be expected to collaborate with colleagues to produce scientific papers and submit research proposals, while also presenting findings at conferences or through invited lectures. The role will involve a mix of laboratory work and computational research, depending on the specific project, and mentoring students in laboratory techniques, computational analysis, and communication skills is also a key expectation. Other duties may be assigned as necessary, reflecting the dynamic nature of research work in this field.
