About the position

Postdoctoral position in public health/clinical informatics in healthcare is immediately available with close collaboration with the Department of Neurology with focus on cerebrovascular diseases using high dimensional and multi-faceted data. This person's primary research will be focused on NIH-funded studies to develop prediction models for stroke using electronic health record data enriched with social determinants of health from multiple institutions. This position requires attention to detail and strong organizational and interpersonal as well as scientific writing skills. This position is scheduled to begin as soon as possible. Geographic proximity to Hershey Medical Center/Penn State College of Medicine is necessary for in-person activities (e.g. meetings/presentations); however, the position includes opportunities for hybrid work. The postdoctoral scholar will be expected to author publications resulting from his/her research and will be provided mentored opportunities to obtain independent grant support in later years.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on NIH-funded studies to develop prediction models for stroke.
  • Collaborate with the Department of Neurology on cerebrovascular diseases.
  • Utilize electronic health record data enriched with social determinants of health.
  • Author publications resulting from research.
  • Participate in meetings and presentations at Hershey Medical Center/Penn State College of Medicine.

Requirements

  • A PhD in statistics/biostatistics, public/population health, bioinformatics, computer science, or another appropriate field, or an MD (or MD, MPH) with experience working with big data.
  • Familiarity with R and one or more other programming languages (e.g., Python, Perl, C++, JAVA, or MATLAB).
  • Strong scientific writing skills, demonstrated by at least two first-author and four co-author publications.
  • Ability for independent learning and thinking in a highly dynamic and decentralized environment.
  • Team player to contribute to ongoing collaborative projects.
