The School of Music at The Ohio State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in AI and Music beginning Fall 2026. We seek a researcher and creative practitioner whose work explores artificial intelligence as it pertains to music and other sonic media, with potential areas of emphasis including music information retrieval, computational musicology and music theory, music cognition, spatial/immersive audio, generative music systems, human-computer interaction, machine improvisation, musical robotics, and/or new interfaces for musical expression. The scholar will have a two-course annual teaching load and is charged with helping develop and deliver courses as part of the new AI, Arts, and Creativity undergraduate certificate. They will work closely with faculty, students, and staff in the School of Music to expand AI research, creative practice, and pedagogy, as well as pursue interdisciplinary collaborations across the university with units both within and outside the arts and humanities. This position is one of three new post-doctoral appointments in the Arts and Humanities, each specifically tied to one of three new AI certificates: AI, Art and Creativity (in development); AI, Ethics and Society; and AI, Language and Mind. These roles work in tandem with the newly established Arts and Humanities AI Institute to support the OSU Provost’s AI Fluency Initiative, preparing students and faculty to make informed decisions about the technological changes around AI.
