About The Position
The Postdoctoral Researcher Scientist III - Mechanical Engineering will lead and conduct experimental research in nanomechanics, tribology, and surface engineering. The position emphasizes hands-on operation of advanced instrumentation (AFM, nanoindentation, tribometers), training students, and ensuring continuity of laboratory operations. The scientist will collaborate on publications, assist with proposal preparation, and help maintain a productive and safe research environment. The position carries substantial experimental independence and opportunities for intellectual contribution to publications and proposals. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education, conferred by the start of employment
- Experience with experimental nanomechanics or surface characterization
- Ability to independently design and troubleshoot laboratory experiments
- Knowledge of general office or research software
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
Nice To Haves
- Hands-on experience with AFM, nanoindentation, or tribology testing
- Experience with thin films, coatings, or surface engineering/adhesion science
- Experience mentoring students
- Record of peer-reviewed publications
