About The Position

Colgate-Palmolive is seeking a highly motivated and proactive Post Doctoral Research Scientist in the Research & Innovation Oral Care Group, Global R D. A successful candidate will specialize in studying novel and innovative ways to enhance the optical properties and appearance of tooth enamel resulting in a perceivable change in color and aesthetics. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative solutions for teeth whitening that can satisfy consumer needs.

Requirements

  • Ph. D in material sciences, polymer science, chemistry, biomaterials, biomedical engineering or related scientific field
  • Research experience with pigments, minerals, colorants, silicas, clays, or bio-inspired ceramics or other technologies to adjust color or whiteness of a material
  • Ability to study and utilize various characterization techniques on a dynamic surface
  • Previous research experience in the area or applications of interfacial chemistry, polymers, abrasive materials and/or surfactants

Nice To Haves

  • Research experience with biomaterials, polymers, or other materials based delivery systems for biological environments
  • Understanding or experience in the cosmetics, paint or skincare industries
  • Understanding or experience in oral care field, specifically dental restorations
  • Must exhibit good project management skills with an entrepreneurial drive. Must be capable of carrying out multiple independent research programs simultaneously with minimal supervision
  • Must have the ability to identify and apply the appropriate methodologies and data evaluation techniques to drive subsequent research direction
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interact with multifunctional technical/non-technical personnel and be an effective participant in a team environment

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new technology solutions for multidimensional enamel aesthetic improvements including instant whitening, uniform color correction, and masking of stain discolorations on enamel
  • Analyze experimental data to illustrate mechanisms of action and enhance product design and development processes
  • Optimize and implement techniques to study the effectiveness of various materials in providing enhancement in teeth whitening
  • Conduct initial formula development for new technology options to assess product viability
  • Manage independent research projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams, leveraging diverse perspectives to achieve key project goals and influence beyond your network
