About The Position

The Boateng laboratory in the Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences at the High Point University Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy seeks a Medicinal or Organic Chemist with expertise and experience in synthesis and characterization of organic compound and evaluation of pharmacological data. The individual will work under the guidance of Dr. Comfort Boateng on a number of projects involving GPCR drug discovery, with a particular focus on drug design and discovery important in neuropsychiatric disorders. The successful applicant will have access to a full range of state-of-the art instrumentation at High Point University, including a triple quad Shimadzu LCMS-8045 mass spectrometer, a Shimadzu QP2020NX gas chromatography-mass spectrometer, a Shimadzu RF-6000 fluorimeter with flow cell, a Shimadzu IRTracer 100 FTIR, a JEOL JNM-ECZS 400MHz NMR, and UV-Vis spectrometers. Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a brief summary (< 1 page) describing their relevant research experience in synthesis and pharmacological evaluation, and names and contact information for two references. Specific Duties & Responsibilities: Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Synthesis and analysis of compounds, e.g., chemical reaction monitoring, separation, purification, and characterization procedures of the research proposal. Analyzing and interpretation of data and writing manuscripts. Lab maintenance. Providing lab members with support in data collection, synthesis, and characterization. Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory): Qualified candidates should have a minimum M.S. or preferably a Ph.D. degree specializing in medicinal or organic chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, or another related field. Experience in using equipment such as GC-MS, NMR, and IR instrumentations. Special Knowledge, Skill & Abilities: The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal communication skills and be able to work well with lab members especially students from a variety of scientific and cultural backgrounds.
