About The Position

The University of Notre Dame announces a post-doctoral research fellow opportunity, to support the research program of Arun Agrawal, Professor at the Keough School of Global Affairs and Director, JTS Initiative. The hiring department is Pulte Institute for Global Development at the Keough School of Global Affairs. The successful candidate for this position will assist Professor Agrawal on current and new research endeavors related to sustainability science and social-ecological systems and governance. The candidate will have scholarly expertise and research interests in one or more of the following areas: institutions, governance, commons, collective action, social-ecological systems, social movements, and sustainability science.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. (in hand by the starting date) in Environmental Science, Economics, Sustainability Studies, Public Policy or a related field with a quantitative focus. Applicants with an interdisciplinary degree are welcome.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data management, data harmonization, and advanced data analysis techniques.
  • Strong programming skills in ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth Engine, R, Python, or similar software.
  • Experience working with large and complex datasets, including geospatial and temporal data.
  • A strong publication record in data-driven sustainability research or closely related fields.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively with researchers from a wide range of disciplines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with socioeconomic data or other indicators of human wellbeing is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Synthesize Complex Data: Lead the meta-analysis of existing datasets related to collective action and social-ecological systems to identify global patterns in sustainability transformations.
  • Lead and Co-author High-Impact Publications: Develop and submit original research papers to top-tier journals in sustainability science, governance, and environmental policy.
