Carnegie Mellon University is a private, global research university that stands among the world’s most renowned education institutions. With ground-breaking brain science, path-breaking performances, creative start-ups, big data, big ambitions, hands-on learning, and a whole lot of robots, CMU doesn’t imagine the future, we invent it. If you’re passionate about joining a community that challenges the curious to deliver work that matters, your journey starts here! The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) ranks among the best in the country. Our research programs are at the forefront of the technologies that have changed the world we live in. Our interdisciplinary approach to education and research allows faculty and student across the university and beyond to collaborate on problems that have a significant impact on the world around us. Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is searching for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on an interdisciplinary project that involves designing microfabricated biomedical sensors and the readout circuitry for recording electrophysiology and electrochemical signals from biological samples. The overarching goal of the project is to detect cancer biomarkers from urine samples using advancements in synthetic biology. The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for designing the sensors, the microfabrication process and the backend readout circuitry and system-level packaging. The postdoctoral associate will also work with other researchers at CMU and also industry members of the project to integrate the sensor with the microfluidic sample delivery system and apply the surface chemistry for the overall system integration. In particular, the postdoctoral associate is expected to perform benchtop testing of the system to benchmark its performance. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on a multi-disciplinary project with a team of scientists and engineers and experts in commercialization and translational research. This project provides a vibrant learning environment for all the trainees. The PI is committed to the professional development of the postdoc associate in addition to their technical excellence.
