About The Position

The Department of Neurosurgery seeks a postdoctoral research associate for the lab of Christopher Kovach, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Neurosurgery, University of Nebraska Medical Center. Areas of focus for Dr. Kovach’s research group include the role of impaired attention in cognitive and perceptual symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease; translational applications of advanced statistical signal analysis to human electrophysiological data (intracranial EEG , microelectrode recordings, scalp EEG , and MEG ) in relation to sleep and movement disorders; and the development of software tools for the analysis of electrophysiology, neuroimaging and eye tracking.. The specific projects assigned to the hired individual will be determined based on their background and interest and current needs in the lab. The ideal candidate will be seeking a career at the intersection of translational neuroscience, scientific computing and signal processing. The Department of Neurosurgery is comprised of eleven faculty members and has numerous close associations with other clinical and basis science departments. Specialized services and expertise are offered in areas of functional and stereotactic neurosurgery, endovascular and cerebrovascular neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, complex spine and deformities, and surgical spine oncology. Requirements

  • PhD in a relevant field (neuroscience, applied math, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, physics, or related field)
  • experience in data recording, curation, and analysis
  • fluent in at least one programming/scripting language
  • experience conducting research in human clinical populations

Nice To Haves

  • significant experience analyzing electrophysiological and/or eye tracking data
  • expertise in the study of movement disorders
  • experience with signal processing, demonstrated in peer-reviewed publications
  • excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills
  • the ability to run experiments independently, to analyze data and to plan future research direction, combined with excellent team skills
  • a highly self-motivated, inquisitive scientist, with a track-record of publication in peer-reviewed journals
