About The Position

Dr. Alex McAvoy’s lab at UNC -Chapel Hill is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on projects related to the mathematics of how social behaviors spread in complex networks. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will join our collaborative, interdisciplinary environment within the School of Data Science and Society, with opportunities to work with researchers in Biology, Mathematics, and Statistics and Operations Research. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will play a pivotal role in creating methods and tools for studying prosocial behavior such as collaboration in realistic networks. Areas of focus may include, but are not limited to: Evolutionary games in structured populations Game theory Multi-agent learning Social network dynamics

  • Knowledge of programming languages and scientific libraries (e.g., Python, PyTorch, etc.)
  • Experience with data analysis and statistical methods

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with evolutionary games in structured populations, especially with connections to empirical data
  • Solid understanding of basic probability, including Markov chain theory
  • Familiarity with methods from physics, including the renormalization group
  • Fluency in Python and relevant scientific libraries, such as NumPy, JAX , and PyTorch.

Responsibilities
