About The Position

The postdoctoral research associate will work on projects related to the engineering of therapeutic proteins to treat and/or prevent various bacterial and viral infections. This position will assist in generating necessary data for currently funded research projects.

  • Appropriate doctoral degree in related field

Nice To Haves

  • Molecular biology, protein engineering techniques.
  • Track-record of productive biochemical lab experience including cloning, protein expression (bacterial and/or mammalian), protein purification, and/or biophysical characterization.
  • Experience with ribosome- and/or mRNA display technologies.
  • Experience with UPEC attachment assay.
  • Good understanding of all protein engineering techniques.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Passionate about therapeutic protein engineering.
  • Enjoy taking calculated risks and operating with urgency.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Existing Research Project Design and conduct the majority of the bench work associated with this project.
  • Responsible for performing experiments.
  • Perform research by integrating tools from protein engineering, e.g. phage display, yeast display, high-throughput screening and structure-based protein design, with those applied in virology, bacteriology and immunology for the engineering of medicinal proteins.
  • Under general supervision, is responsible for conducting research into their field of expertise.
  • Utilizes knowledge and skills granted to them by their education and expertise to complete research projects in their field of expertise.
  • Perform preparation and cleaning of worksite.
  • Analyzes research data and summarizes results.
  • Write Papers Compose and edit manuscripts related to ongoing projects as a lead author and completing project progress reports to ensure continuation of project funding.
  • Will assist the PI in gathering relevant material for writing research grant and participate in grant writing.
  • Data Analysis Responsible for performing primary data analysis and initial preparation of manuscripts and presentations.
  • Mentor Assist and train other members in the lab to successfully execute their research projects.
  • May assist, mentor, and/or supervise student researchers and/or graduate students who are working on research related to the project.
  • Additional Lab Support Prepares presentation materials on research topic that may be presented to small and/or large groups.
  • Actively participates in the preparation of required technical progress reports to research sponsors.
