About The Position

The Institute of Biosciences and Technology (IBT) of Texas A&M Health Science Center is seeking highly skilled and motivated postdoctoral candidates to pursue interdisciplinary research in molecular mechanisms of antibiotic resistance, host pathogen interactions and therapeutic discovery. The IBT ab conducts research in antibiotic resistance mechanisms from patient samples, collaborative discovery of anti-infective therapeutics, and bacterial pathogenesis. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be responsible for performing responsible research work of a technical and complex nature that requires planning and supervising research projects in accordance with general plans approved by the supervisor. Will participate in ongoing projects relating to mechanisms of antibiotic resistance, bacterial genetics and physiology, protein biochemistry and omics techniques as it relates to combating antibiotic resistance.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Host Pathogen Interactions, Cellular and Molecular Biology, or related science.
  • Laboratory research experience in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, protein science and animal models of infectious diseases are preferred.
  • Strong interest in laboratory research involving molecular biology in bacteria
  • Proficient in molecular biology laboratory techniques, such as RT-qPCR, bacterial genetics, Protein Biochemistry, Western blotting, and microscopy, and use of genomics including comparative genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts independent research relating to bacterial mechanisms of resistance and discovery and characterization of drug targets; carries out research problem solving; research literature in connection to possible procedures and experiments; modifies experiments to suit the particular research needs.
  • Prepares data for analysis and prepares samples. Obtain original research results.
  • Organize and maintain equipment used in the lab.
  • Collects, records, complies, analyzes research data: documents and interprets results of experiments and reports to the principal investigator(s).
  • Assistance in basic operation of the lab, organization of lab supplies, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Participate in animal experiments to evaluate drug efficacy or pathogenesis.
  • Prepare data for charts, graphs, photographs, figures, and manuscripts for papers, meetings, and for publication in journals.
  • Prepare slides for presentation at scientific conferences and meetings.
  • Assist with research grant proposals to funding agencies and provide publishable reports for conference and journal presentations. This will include library research into new approaches.
  • Participate in weekly lab meetings within the center and other departments.
  • Participate in joint projects involving faculty, junior lab personnel, and graduate students.
  • Provide assistance to graduate students and junior lab personnel.
