About The Position

This postdoctoral position offers an opportunity to conduct leading-edge research in embedded security with applications to healthcare and medical device cybersecurity. The role emphasizes hands-on experimental research, leadership in project execution, and fostering a safe and productive laboratory environment. The appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of sponsored research funding.

Requirements

  • PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, cybersecurity, or a closely related field.
  • Strong record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and training in research methodology and quantitative data analysis.
  • Strong technical expertise and independence in programming, with proficiency in tools such as Binary Ninja, IDA Pro, Matlab, software radios, LaTeX, etc.
  • Demonstrated research expertise in embedded systems, cybersecurity, or medical device security.
  • Ability to plan and execute research projects independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor students and manage complex projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous student supervisory experience desired.
  • Experience with medical devices, hospital systems, or healthcare operations is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead research projects in embedded systems security under the supervision of the PI, including proposal development and preparation of high-quality publications in top computer security, privacy, embedded systems, sensing, and networking venues.
  • Pursue research topics such as protecting embedded systems from vulnerabilities rooted in sensor physics, studying the impact of physical signals (e.g., acoustics, lasers, electromagnetic emissions) on AI and sensing systems, and innovating hardware–software co-design for privacy and integrity.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in experimental design, data analysis, paper writing, and professional development; provide apprenticeship-style training in laboratory methods and embedded security research.
  • Support project management by tracking milestones and deadlines, assisting with acquisition of laboratory resources, preparing project updates, and coordinating with the PI on active research activities.
  • Contribute to the intellectual community of the Archimedes Center by helping organize seminars, workshops, retreats, and research reading groups.
  • Foster an inclusive lab culture, promote collaboration, and encourage shared learning among team members.
