About The Position

This collaborative position in the Long Lab within translational immunology at the Benaroya Research Institute provides a unique opportunity to explore the role of clonal expansion and autoreactive T cell features in early T1D disease using TrialNet samples. Overall, the Long Lab focuses on better understanding underlying mechanisms of autoimmune disease, patient variability, and response to therapy using human samples. The postdoctoral scientist will lead independent cellular and molecular research relevant to single cell islet specific T cell multi-modal data comparing cells isolated from early T1D individuals (stage 1) with stable versus advancing antibody profiles. The applicant will design and perform experiments to identify autoreactive B and T cells for downstream transcriptional analyses. Additionally, the role involves working with the Bioinformatics team at BRI to design and perform experiments, which may include learning computational skills and using systems tools. Collaboration with leaders in the field of autoimmunity, including TrialNet from which samples were obtained, is also a key aspect of this position. The postdoctoral scientist will be expected to publish papers, write grants, and present findings at meetings. Supervising support staff in the lab is another responsibility, along with fostering a friendly, collaborative learning environment that prioritizes integrity and respect, innovation and agility, and constant inquiry. The Long Lab is committed to providing opportunities for additional training and engagement with the larger scientific community.
