About The Position

An NIH funded postdoctoral position is available immediately for a highly motivated early career scientist to study the molecular, epigenetic and genomic mechanisms regulating humoral immunity. Current NIH funded projects focus on the interface of chromatin conformation with gene expression and the functional implications of these events to immunoglobulin repertoire development and humoral immunity. The position in the Kenter laboratory at the University of Illinois College of Medicine is located in a vibrant scientific environment with cross-cutting Chicago-wide programs in molecular genetics and genomics. The candidate must have recent research experience in molecular/cellular biology and immunology and be fluent in English. Our studies are focused on features promoting productive Igh locus rearrangements including chromosomal conformation, epigenetic modifications and spatial localization in 3D nuclear space in progenitor and mature B lymphocytes. We investigate radial positioning of gene loci in 3D nuclei as a condition of robust locus function using state of the art imaging and molecular approaches. We also examine immunoglobulin repertoire in early and mature stage B cell compartments from young and old individuals to assess the molecular underpinnings of immunosenescence that contributes to immune suppression of the elderly. We engage in collaborative mechanistic studies with other labs within our institution and nationally. We seek highly motivated future career scientists capable of independent thinking, open to teamwork and determined to conquer new techniques. It is our mission to provide an excellent learning environment to train the next generation of scientists. The successful candidate will be provided opportunities to present their work at local and national meeting venues.
