About The Position

The Boon lab is looking for an enthusiastic Post-doctoral fellow to support our team studying cellular immune responses to influenza virus and SARS-CoV-2 in mouse and hamster models. The projects in the lab include assessing the role of T and B cell immunity on virus infection and transmission, evaluating innovative virus vaccines, as well as developing assays and reagents for hamster immunology, and identifying T cell epitopes in different viruses and species. The lab is located at WashU Medicine in Saint Louis, MO. The lab is housed on a floor with several other laboratories that study virus-host interactions. We have ongoing collaborations with labs in many other departments in the University, including Molecular Microbiology and Pathology & Immunology.

Requirements

  • Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in immunology, molecular biology, microbiology, or a similar field.
  • Have published one or more papers in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Can guide research projects.
  • Have a background in or desire to learn bioinformatics analysis techniques.
  • Good interpersonal skills and willingness to mentor students and technicians.
  • Excellent speaking, reading and writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Trains under the supervision of a faculty mentor.
  • Assists with grant preparation and reporting.
  • Prepares and submits papers on research.
  • Assists in the design of research experiments.
  • Evaluates research findings and assists in the reporting of the results.
  • Maintains conformity with ethical standards in research.
  • Maintains compliance with good laboratory practice including the maintenance of adequate research records.
  • Engages in open and timely discussion with their mentor regarding possession or distribution of material, reagents, or records belonging to their laboratory.
  • Collegial conduct towards co-trainees, staff members and members of the research group.
  • Adherence to all applicable University policies, procedures and regulations.
