About The Position

The University of Virginia is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Sturek Laboratory, focusing on translational pulmonary immunology and fibrosis. This role involves leading laboratory projects, providing scientific guidance, and conducting research to advance the lab's mission. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the principal investigator and mentor trainees, while also having the opportunity to pursue individual research fellowship funding.

Requirements

  • PhD in the Biosciences or an MD with a research emphasis required at the time of hire.
  • Demonstrated experience with mouse models of pulmonary disease or human immunology.
  • Experience with flow cytometry and histology.
  • Essential experience with primary cell culture and functional analyses in vitro and in vivo.
  • Knowledge of molecular features of cells (DNA/RNA/Protein) is essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with retro- and lenti-viral production and transduction.
  • Familiarity with RNAi-based strategies for gene expression regulation.
  • Experience with CRISPR/Cas9 techniques.
  • Interest in high-dimensional data analysis techniques such as mass cytometry, spectral flow, and RNAseq.

Responsibilities

  • Lead laboratory projects and provide scientific and technical guidance on experimental design.
  • Conduct and interpret studies to advance the research program.
  • Teach and mentor trainees including fellows, residents, PhD candidates, and undergraduates.
  • Prepare research proposals and manuscripts.
  • Explore the role of B cells and IgA in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
