The Center for Advanced Microbiome Research and Innovation (CAMRI) within the Institute of Genome Sciences (IGS) is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow, to join the laboratory of Jacques Ravel studying the vaginal microbiome’s role in women’s health. Our lab integrates multi-omics microbiome analyses, experimental models, observational cohorts, and clinical trials to uncover the mechanisms by which the vaginal microbiome influences host susceptibility to sexually transmitted infections and likelihood to experience preterm birth, among other adverse health outcomes. We welcome applicants with backgrounds in bioinformatics, molecular microbiology, and/or microbial ecology/evolution to apply.

  • Conduct metagenomic and metatranscriptomic sequencing analysis
  • Integrate single-cell RNA-seq and proteomic/metabolomic data
  • Interpret clinical and multi-omic microbiome data biologically
  • Lead projects and contribute to grant writing
  • Write manuscripts for publication
  • PhD in bioinformatics, molecular microbiology, or related field
  • Strong programming skills in Python and R
  • Experience with command line tools
  • Background in microbiology
  • Experience leading projects
  • Experience with multi-omics data integration
  • Familiarity with clinical trial data
  • Strong communication skills
  • Access to clinical samples from well-characterized cohorts and clinical trials
  • Collaborative environment across CAMRI and IGS
  • Mentorship in academic career development
  • Access to cutting-edge tools in multi-omics and host-microbe systems biology
