About The Position

The Society of Fellows at Dartmouth College invites applications for two-year postdoctoral fellowships. These fellowships foster the academic careers of scholars who have recently received their Ph.D. degrees. Fellows pursue their research while gaining mentored experience as teachers and members of the departments or programs in which they are housed. In addition, fellows participate in the Society alongside other postdoctoral scholars and Dartmouth faculty in a spirit of multidisciplinary learning and mutual enrichment. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research is innovative and transcends traditional disciplinary divides. For the 2026-2028 cohort, we seek candidates for a fellowship in the Department of Economics , with specialization in economic history. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research involves novel approaches to large-scale historical data and intersects with other applied fields like labor, public finance, and political economy. We are also advertising separately for fellowships in the Program in Cognitive Science , Department of Environmental Studies , and the Department of Geography . Salary and resources This is a two-year fellowship (up to 24 months), beginning 1 July 2026. Fellows receive competitive stipends and benefits, comparable to those offered by other fellowship programs, and $5,000 annually to support computing, travel and research needs.

Requirements

  • Applicants for the 2026-2028 Society Fellowships must hold a PhD, or be ABD, in a relevant discipline.
  • To be eligible for the fellowship, applicants must have their degree conferred between January 1, 2024 and June 30, 2026.

Responsibilities
