About The Position

The Postdoctoral Fellow in Plant Humanities at Dumbarton Oaks will contribute to the Plant Humanities Lab, focusing on research, content creation, and public outreach related to the cultural histories of plants. This role involves producing narratives, collaborating on digital resources, and engaging in educational initiatives, all while participating in a vibrant scholarly community.

Requirements

• PhD in the humanities or humanistic social sciences with a focus on plants and people.
• Excellent writing skills.
• Excellent research skills.
• Experience working with special collections and digital repositories.
• Teaching experience, especially at the undergraduate level.

Nice To Haves

• Experience writing for diverse audiences.
• Some editorial experience in print or digital publications.
• Digital skills, including mapping and visualization software and Linked Open Data.

Responsibilities

• Research and produce new plant narratives using the rare book collection and digital repositories.
• Generate public-facing articles and peer-reviewed publications.
• Manage the editorial process for external submissions.
• Collaborate with software developers to enhance the Plant Humanities Lab.
• Support the development of open access resources, including video courses and instructional materials.
• Contribute to education and public outreach projects related to the Plant Humanities Initiative.
• Teach in the Plant Humanities Summer Program.
