The research trainee will participate in design of observational studies, perform data collection and aggregation from MD Anderson patients. The trainee will become adept at use of databases such as RedCap database software and database management. In addition, the trainee will learn and build on statistical analysis principles and perform introductory statistical analysis of the dataset. The trainee will also learn and build on abstract and manuscript writing skills and scientific presentations. In regard to acquiring research skills, we have a set of lectures based on epidemiology principles that we will expect the trainee to review. These lectures will focus on epidemiologic concepts including patient selection, types of study bias, clinical trial design, review of strengths and limitations of cross-sectional studies, retrospective and prospective cohorts, case-control studies, randomized controlled trials, and systematic review and meta-analyses. These skills and knowledge will be applied to the main project and subprojects that the trainee will participate in.
