Location Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Center Job Description Postdoctoral Associate opportunities are immediately available within the Advanced Center for Translational Genetic Medicine (ACT-GeM) within the Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute. The lab’s vision is to understand rare pediatric genetic disease through diversity, discovery and development. Candidates will be considered for a training position that will involve leading interdisciplinary projects with readily available funding. The ideal candidates will be accomplished, highly motivated, and creative scientists with interests in at least one of the three following areas: 1) understanding the architecture of human genetic disease; 2) investigating the mechanisms underlying disease processes; and 3) identification of novel therapeutic paradigms for inherited disorders. Additionally, candidates will have the opportunity to investigate unique pediatric cohorts; use cell-based, zebrafish, or mouse models; and employ cutting-edge molecular and imaging technologies in a state-of-the-art facility.

Requirements

  • Ph. D. or MD in Medical or Biological Science Program.
  • Knowledge in Computer programs, word, excel and power point presentations.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Organizational skills: Ability to establish priorities and react promptly to a large variety of requests and needs, sometimes in stressful situations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide researchers as requested with technical assistance.
  • Performs job functions adhering to principals of innovation, academic excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality research effort to our Institution, co-workers and others.
  • Genetic studies, molecular biology Redcap/ Imaging software, gene chip arrays and others.
  • Analyzing data.
  • Preparing data for presentations, grants and publications.
  • Help write grant proposals and progress reports related to research projects.
  • Participate in regular lab meetings, journal clubs, and research seminars.
  • Other job functions as assigned.
  • Interact with research animals, which will include mouse or zebrafish manipulation, and analysis of data generated with such models
  • Collaborate with senior staff to oversee the day-to-day management of multiple projects; perform experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation to determine the relevance of genetic findings to disease
  • Interact with a team of trainees, technical staff, and faculty and train staff members on laboratory techniques, Standard Operating Procedures, and equipment-specific requirements
  • Assist faculty, staff, and students in the development and execution of new research procedures and techniques, and administer and coordinate the technical activities and infrastructure related to scientific research projects
  • Develop, compose, and revise Standard Operating Procedures as required
  • Maintain liaison with investigators, collaborators, research personnel, and staff to ensure compliance with established practices, to implement new policies, and to keep employees abreast of current changes and standards
  • Solve specific operating problems and improve technical activities, advise on technical procedures, techniques, and equipment, and maintain conformance with specific operational standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including assistance with reports, manuscripts, and grant proposals
