About The Position

The Burch-Smith lab at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis, MO is seeking a postdoctoral associate beginning immediately. We are seeking a motivated, creative and independent scientist to join our dynamic and diverse research lab. The Burch-Smith lab is a plant molecular and cellular biology lab that studies intra- and intercellular communication in plants. The postdoc hired through this advertisement will research intercellular communication in sorghum grown under field conditions using a combination of molecular biology and advanced imaging techniques. This project is part of a larger DOE-funded project, and the selected candidate will have the opportunity to engage with labs with expertise in plant physiology, epigenetics and genomics.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise in light or electron microscopy
  • Self-motivated individual who can work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a scientific team
  • Evidence of effective communication skills and ability to produce high-quality manuscripts

  • Ph.D. in Molecular or Cell Biology or related field

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research projects in a timely manner, with the expectation of meeting deadlines
  • Direct own research efforts and critique project goals and approaches
  • Effectively design and assemble projects and collaborations
  • Critique and troubleshoot experimental procedures and outcomes independently
  • Communicate effectively in both written and oral media
  • Contribute to research proposals
  • Mentor and supervise junior scientists, e.g. grad students, undergraduates
  • Lead efforts in disseminating research results
  • Take advantage of opportunities for professional development
