About The Position

The Agoro lab at the Jackson Laboratory for Mammalian Genetics is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to identify mechanisms that trigger sickle cell disease crisis. The goal of our laboratory is to determine the mechanisms of disease severity heterogeneity using systems biology. We use a multidisciplinary approach that integrates genetics, genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics to isolate systemic and tissue-specific marker of disease progression. The ideal candidate would have a strong background in molecular biology, and genomic technologies. Exceptional candidates can show early independence through the JAX Scholars Program. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with other laboratories within the JAX community and with external collaborators who are translational scientists and clinicians. As a postdoctoral scientist in our lab, you will pioneer the development of new mouse models that recapitulate disease phenotypic heterogeneity as seen in patients. You will work with data generated from sickle cell disease patients. In our group, you will apply a broad range of cutting-edge technologies, including CRISPR-based tools, single-cell multi-omics, and create new disease mouse models that better recapitulate disease phenotype. The Jackson Laboratory (http://www.jax.org) in Bar Harbor, Maine, USA, is recognized internationally for its research excellence, unparalleled mouse resources, state of the art facilities for computational science, mass spectrometry, imaging science, genome technologies, outstanding training environment characterized by scientific collaborations, and exceptional core services - all within a spectacular setting adjacent to Acadia National Park. In addition to lab-based training, JAX has developed a unique program for trainees to expand their professional skills in science communication, entrepreneurship, teaching, mentoring and laboratory management to best prepare postdocs for future career opportunities. We are an inclusive research group, aspiring to produce top science and scientists through attentive and progressive mentoring and interdisciplinary teamwork. About JAX: The Jackson Laboratory is an independent, nonprofit biomedical research institution with a National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center and nearly 3,000 employees in locations across the United States (Maine, Connecticut, California), Japan and China. Its mission is to discover precise genomic solutions for disease and empower the global biomedical community in the shared quest to improve human health. Founded in 1929, JAX applies over nine decades of expertise in genetics to increase understanding of human disease, advancing treatments and cures for cancer, neurological and immune disorders, diabetes, aging and heart disease. It models and interprets genomic complexity, integrates basic research with clinical application, educates current and future scientists, and provides critical data, tools and services to the global biomedical community.
