The Advanced Photon Source (APS) POLAR beamline is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to develop and employ advanced high-pressure instrumentation for x-ray spectroscopy and scattering techniques. The successful candidate will leverage fabrication capabilities available in the Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) to tailor the high-pressure sample environment in diamond anvil cells. To this end, two main avenues will be pursued: advancing our toroidal anvil capabilities to extend the maximum achievable pressure ranges; and depositing designed electrical circuits to create advanced multi-modal experiments that combine electrical transport with x-ray techniques. Experiments are expected to focus on strongly correlated and topological systems, being primarily carried out at the APS POLAR and HPCAT beamlines.
