This position focuses on the research and development of novel radiation detectors and associated edge-computing circuits and algorithms for X-ray, particle, and nuclear physics experiments. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to a multidisciplinary co-design team spanning material science, computing, and electronic engineering, with the goal of enabling next-generation detector capabilities. This position involves close collaboration with researchers at Argonne National Laboratory and Northwestern University as part of the BIA microelectronics project.   • Capturing requirements and analyzing specifications for future detector systems
  • Performing conceptual design and system-level optimization using emerging computing architectures and device technologies
  • Developing and applying simulation and modeling tools for detector performance, characterization, and validation
  • Providing technical feedback to guide intelligent on-detector/edge processing and device design within the broader project team
  • Recent or soon-to-be-completed PhD (within the last 0-5 years) in field of physics, engineering, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated programming proficiency in C/C++, Python, or another scientific programming language
  • Comprehensive knowledge of imaging systems and/or semiconductor or solid-state detector design and simulation
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork
