About The Position

The Q-NEXT National Quantum Information Science and Research Center based at Argonne National Laboratory invites applications for a postdoctoral position to conduct research in the field of material science for quantum information hardware with the industrially mature solid state platforms of silicon/silicon germanium and silicon carbide spin qubits. The position will focus on heterogeneous integration of spin qubits in semiconductor devices, with advanced x-ray characterization and spin measurements of such devices. These systems include SiC spin defects and Si/SiGe quantum dots. A successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team working collaboratively with researchers in Q-NEXT (both at Argonne and other academic and industrial member institutions), and is expected to build on and create new interdisciplinary collaborations. The candidate will be primarily responsible for: SiC spin qubit and material characterization with Q-NEXT measurement capabilities X-ray nanodiffraction at the Advanced Photon Source of industrially fabricated Si/SiGe heterostructures, with complementary cryogenic qubit measurements Publishing results in refereed journals and make oral presentations at meetings, conferences, symposia, and seminars Maintaining cognizance of available techniques and expertise in related research groups through interactions and collaborative efforts Participating in creating and maintaining technical reports on experiment progress, technique development, and new initiatives to peer reviewers and Q-NEXT program managers

Requirements

  • Completed Ph.D. within the last 0-5 years (or soon-to-be-completed) in condensed matter physics, materials science, electrical engineering, quantum science, or a related field
  • Experience in characterization of materials for quantum information
  • Experience in cryogenic quantum measurement
  • Experience in x-ray diffraction techniques
  • Experience designing and building experimental control and data acquisition systems
  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork
