About The Position

This position is a post sophomore Anatomy and Surgery Research Assistant in Anatomy and Surgery through the Department of Surgery. The research assistant provides training in teaching, advanced anatomical topics (e.g. embryology, and medical imaging) and research methodology (e.g. biostatistics and scientific writing). The research assistant will have the opportunity to teach in the anatomy curriculum and to develop a research project with the goal of publication and presentations.

Requirements

  • Education: Enrollment as a current medical student at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
  • Successful completion of first two years of medical school by the start of fellowship.
  • Received score of "Pass" on Step 1 USMLE Exams.
  • Resume/CV.
  • Cover Letter.
  • Three letters of Recommendation from KUMC faculty, and/or professional mentor outside the institution.

Nice To Haves

  • Work Experience: Strong overall performance in the anatomy lab assessments.
  • Skills Dissection skills in gross anatomy.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in teaching all gross anatomy and neuroanatomy labs.
  • Facilitate and enroll in surgical training programs (e.g. BASE).
  • Assist in the management, organization, and operation of the Anatomy Lab.
  • Prepare and clean the laboratory environment.
  • Assist in inventory and order equipment for the lab.
  • Manage in-lab video projection and recording equipment.
  • Complete a research project focused on a surgical and/or anatomy issue.
