About The Position

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore's (UMES) Department of Agriculture, Food, and Resource Sciences seeks applications and nominations for the Post-Doctoral Position in Fermentation/Molecular Microbiology. This position is a non-tenured track faculty, two-year, grant-funded appointment with possible extension contingent on the grant fund availability and performance. The anticipated starting date for this position is fall 2026. The department offers B.S. degrees in General Agriculture with several concentrations, an Agribusiness Management, an M.S., and a Ph.D. in Food and Agricultural Sciences. The department is actively engaged in teaching, research, and extension, and has many faculty and staff members with split appointments between UMES Extension and the UMES Agriculture Experiment Station. Requirements

  • PhD. in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field.
  • Enthusiasm for conducting research in the field as well as in the lab.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in fermentation-related work and Lactobacillus spp. Handling.
  • Previous working experience in a BSL 2 facility.

Responsibilities

  • Develop research protocols and conduct field trips for sample collection and procurement.
  • Perform laboratory basic, molecular microbiological analysis, and data analysis using statistical software such as SAS.
  • Prepare scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Prepare posters and oral presentations for scientific conferences.
  • Assist in other research projects and departmental activities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
