Requirements

  • Demonstrated potential for effective undergraduate teaching.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain scientific concepts clearly to diverse student populations.
  • Commitment to high-quality instruction and student-centered learning.
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related field completed by the start date of appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching experience as instructor of record or teaching assistant at the undergraduate level.
  • Experience teaching general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, or related laboratory courses.
  • Familiarity with active learning strategies, laboratory safety instruction, or course management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard).
  • Interest in pursuing a long-term career in teaching-focused academic positions.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses and laboratories in chemistry and/or biochemistry, which may include lectures, discussion sections, introductory or upper-division labs, and assessment activities.
  • Manage teaching laboratories, including preparation, safety compliance, and supervision of graduate teaching assistants.
  • Assist in course coordination, including preparation of syllabi, instructional materials, exams, and laboratory manuals.
  • Hold regular office hours and provide academic support to undergraduate students.
  • Implement inclusive, evidence-based teaching practices that support student engagement and success.
  • Participate in departmental teaching meetings, training, and professional development activities related to pedagogy.
  • Contribute to assessment efforts and continuous improvement of undergraduate curricula.
  • Perform other instructional or academic service duties as assigned by the department.
