The Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics (AMS) at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado invites applications for up to three (3) Postdoctoral Fellowship positions to begin (subject to availability) in August 2026. The position is a two-year appointment (based upon satisfactory performance) that can be renewed by the department for an additional year. The AMS department is a diverse and collegial cohort of 23 faculty members, split almost evenly between research faculty and teaching faculty. Research interests within the department are broad, varied, and frequently interdisciplinary in nature, including mathematical biology, mathematical geosciences, applied partial differential equations, environmental and spatial statistics, scientific computing, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. Mines has the highest admission standards of any university in Colorado and the AMS department confers Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees in applied mathematics and statistics, while providing foundational mathematics coursework for all other Mines majors.

  • Teach 3-4 courses per year, primarily in the core mathematics sequence (Calculus I, II, III and Differential Equations).
  • Opportunities to teach outside of the core curriculum (e.g., Intro to Scientific Computing, Linear Algebra, Intro to Statistics, Intro to Probability).
  • Collaborate with AMS faculty within their distinct research field or across the department in the improvement and delivery of the AMS curriculum.
  • Write manuscripts within peer-reviewed journals and present results at (inter)national conferences and workshops.
  • Collaborate within an associated research group, including an AMS faculty member, other postdocs, as well as graduate and undergraduate students at Mines.
  • Participate in grant-writing and annual reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • PhD degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Science, Statistics or a related field by August 2026.
  • Previous experience in teaching mathematics at the collegiate level.
  • Strong commitment to and experience with undergraduate teaching.
  • Experience with mathematics research via journal and/or conference publications.
  • Strong communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills for collaborative work.
  • Undergraduate teaching experience within a coordinated, multi-section setting.
  • Experience with and outstanding promise in research devoted to applied and computational mathematics, mathematical biology, applied PDEs, or statistics.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary research efforts.
  • Experience with mentoring undergraduate student research.
