A postdoctoral position is open in the Techtmann Lab in the Department of Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering at the Ohio State University. This postdoctoral scholar will contribute to bioengineering of extremophilic microorganisms. This postdoc will lead research on the applications of ice-control proteins from extremophilic microorganisms. This work is part of a larger effort to identify the biotechnological applications of proteins from cold-adapted microorganisms. This will work include heterologous expression and purification of proteins recovered from environmental metagenomes. Work will include biochemical characterization of purified proteins. Expertise in protein expression and purification is desired. Additional tasks will include scale up and formulation of ice-control proteins for various application-specific endpoints. Depending on the qualifications of the candidate, research could include bioinformatic analyses for further identification of the diversity of ice-control proteins and compound. Strong communication skills are desired to facilitate coordination with collaborators. The ideal candidate will have the ability to assist in supervision and mentoring of students in lab work related to the project.
