The Post Doctoral Scholar takes initiative and works independently in developing new research ideas and troubleshooting new assays. Further, the incumbent facilitates the training of students, residents, fellows, and other trainees. This joint postdoctoral fellowship between the Department of Medical Education and the Department of Informatics and Health Data Science at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine offers a unique opportunity to advance the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and emerging digital technologies in medical education. The Postdoctoral Scholar will work at the intersection of digital health, informatics, and education innovation, leveraging advanced AI methodologies to transform health professions training. This is a HYBRID position. The Postdoctoral Scholar will serve as a key contributor to AI and data science initiatives across the departments and will: Support the development of new AI-driven curricula and assessment frameworks for health professions education. Design, develop and apply AI solutions including traditional machine learning models, natural language processing (NLP), and ontology-based frameworks to enhance simulation, curriculum development, and personalized learning in health professions education. Develop and evaluate AI-powered tools such as chatbots, automated feedback systems, and adaptive and precision learning pathways, to enhance student engagement, knowledge retention, and competency-based education. Conduct cutting-edge research in AI-enhanced educational methodologies, data analytics, and digital learning platforms. Lead and contribute to grant proposals and peer-reviewed publications to secure funding and disseminate findings focused on AI and informatics-driven educational innovations. Integrate large-scale educational and clinical datasets into AI-driven learning systems to improve decision-making and training efficacy using best practices in information systems management. Create, implement and evaluate the impact of AI-enhanced generative assessment tools to enhance simulation-based training, virtual patients, and decision support systems to ensure real-time skill development in clinical education. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the Miller School of Medicine, UHealth, and industry partners to co-design and pilot new AI-driven curricula and educational technologies across the medical school and health system. Contribute to the development of institutional policy, ethical frameworks, and best practices related to the use of AI in medical education. Establish an independent research agenda under the mentorship of faculty from both departments, aligned with the university’s strategic vision for AI-powered medical education. Program Objectives: Provide fundamental training by interdisciplinary faculty in the area of informatics and health data science research using translational, population health, and health equity methods and practices. Establish and foster meaningful mentors-mentee partnerships aligning scholars with primary and peer mentors based on shared research interests and complementary expertise. Provide individualized academic coaching to mentees while developing skills needed to develop independent research career Guide mentees in the preparation and presentation of posters and oral presentations at scientific and professional conferences.
