About The Position

This is a two-year post-doctoral appointment (with possible renewal) to provide advance research training to individuals with a doctoral degree in the biological sciences and to further the basic and translational research goals in the Children's Research Institute. The postdoctoral research fellow will conduct high quality research in basic and translational science. Our laboratory has focused on understanding the mechanism of oncogene- or tumor suppressor-driven cancer progression and identifying novel strategies or compounds targeting cancer-specific events. Our lab specifically focuses on the mutant RAS and the p53 tumor suppressor signaling and takes chemical, biochemical, bioinformatic, and biological (cell culture, mouse models) approaches. We seek individuals with a doctoral degree in the biomedical sciences and to further the basic and translational research goals of the Division of Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant, Department of Pediatrics and the Children's Mercy Research Institute. Requirements

  • Ph.D. or MD or related doctoral level degree in a relevant discipline and 1-2 years experience

Responsibilities

  • Conducting original laboratory research in the general areas of biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, genomics, and neuroscience
  • Develop hypotheses and design and carry out laboratory experiments using a variety of research techniques to test those hypotheses under the supervision of his or her research mentors.
  • Present research results at lab meetings and division meetings.
  • Present at regional and national scientific conferences, publications of abstracts, and publication of research articles in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Fulfill mandatory education requirements by personal attendance or online training.
  • Regular participation at Lab and Section meetings.
  • Weekly attendance in Professor Rounds and/or scholarly conference in CMH.
