About The Position

The Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (PIIRS) at Princeton University is excited to announce a new fellowship program aimed at fostering innovative scholarship in the field of international studies. As a premier institution dedicated to interdisciplinary research, PIIRS seeks to address some of the most pressing global challenges through its Postdoctoral Fellows Program. This program is designed to support recent PhDs in the Social Sciences who have demonstrated exceptional scholarship that aligns with the Institute's intellectual focus. The goal is to advance theoretical debates within their respective fields while engaging a multidisciplinary audience and deepening regional knowledge of specific areas. The postdoctoral appointments will last for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on satisfactory performance and continued funding. Selected fellows are required to reside on campus during the academic year to fully engage with PIIRS and the broader university community. The fellowship provides an opportunity for fellows to leverage Princeton's extensive scholarly resources, focus on their research, expand their intellectual horizons, and prepare their work for publication. Throughout the fellowship, fellows will participate in biweekly meetings with the faculty director to discuss their research progress and monthly meetings with faculty fellows from various social sciences to present their work and gain insights from peers. Additionally, fellows are encouraged to engage with colleagues and attend departmental seminars to enrich their academic experience. To be eligible for this prestigious fellowship, applicants must demonstrate outstanding scholarly achievement and promise. Generally, candidates should not have more than two years of postdoctoral experience prior to the start of the appointment, which begins on September 1, 2025. The selection process will focus on the strength of the candidates' scholarly records, the promise of their proposed research, and their potential contributions to the intellectual life of the postdoctoral program, including their interest in collaborating with other departments at PIIRS and Princeton University. In addition to a competitive salary and benefits, the fellowship program offers a housing subsidy and a research fund of $4,000 per year. Fellows will also have the opportunity to host a small, pre-publication book workshop, further enhancing their academic profile. Interested applicants must submit their applications online by November 1, 2024, including a cover letter, curriculum vitae, transcripts, a research proposal, a dissertation abstract, a writing sample, and confirmation of PhD completion requirements. Letters of recommendation from three referees are also required and must be submitted by the application deadline. For more information, applicants can visit the PIIRS website.
