About The Position

A Postdoctoral Associate position is available immediately in the laboratory of Elan Eisenmesser at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (Anschutz Medical Campus). The Eisenmesser laboratory is located in a highly collaborative structural biology environment with access to: Bruker 600 MHz and 900 MHz NMR spectrometers with cryoprobes An on-site 200 kV Talos Arctica cryo-EM facility Proteomics and metabolomics mass spectrometry cores A comprehensive biophysics core facility All major instrumentation is located in the same building. Our group uses an integrative structural biology approach to understand how macromolecular structure and dynamics control function in systems relevant to infectious disease. We combine: Solution NMR spectroscopy (structure, dynamics) Cryo-EM of large macromolecular assemblies Biochemistry and molecular biology Current projects include: Bacterial proteases that manipulate host pathways, with emphasis on conformational exchange and its role in enzyme mechanisms. Macromolecular assemblies involved in microbial metabolism with a particular focus on protein-protein regulatory mechanisms. The successful candidate will apply advanced NMR methods and develop cryo-EM expertise to study structure–dynamics–function relationships in these systems. Our department conducts research across a wide biological scale for fundamental scientific understanding with applications to many disease contexts. The overarching goal is to reach a level of molecular insight that helps develop therapeutic approaches to disease. As biochemists and molecular geneticists, we are amid an unprecedented time of discovery - our conception of the molecular biology of cells is going from the equivalent of grainy black-and-white to high-resolution technicolor. From deciphering the choreography of transcription complexes, chromosomes, and RNA molecules within cells to developing novel approaches to 3D molecular structure determination to understanding how viruses hijack a cell’s machinery and alter its metabolome, the researchers in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics (BMG) are at the forefronts of their fields both conceptually and technologically.

Requirements

• A Ph.D. in biochemistry, structural biology, biophysics, or a related field
• Strong experience in biomolecular NMR
• Expertise in protein expression and purification

Nice To Haves

• Experience with cryo-EM is welcome but not required.
• The position is ideal for candidates interested in expanding from NMR into integrative structural biology.
