About the position

The Post Doctoral Associate will engage in joint research on the dynamics of magnons in thin film heterostructures of chiral antiferromagnets (both metallic and insulating) and heavy non-magnetic metals and alloys. This role involves collaborative research with scientists from SLAC - Linear Accelerator Laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Synthesis of thin film heterointerfaces of chiral antiferromagnets and heavy metal alloys using UHV sputtering.
  • Conduct measurements of electronic transport (DC and RF) at cryogenic temperatures.
  • Conduct studies of magnetization dynamics from ambient to cryogenic temperatures over a wide frequency range.
  • Preparation of reports and manuscripts, and supervision of undergraduate student research.
  • Participate in collaborative research with national laboratories.
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate student research.

Requirements

  • PhD in Physics or Materials Science from an accredited college or university.
  • Research experience in measurements of electronic transport at low temperatures and high magnetic fields.
  • Experience in measurements at microwave frequencies.
  • Experience in structure characterization with high-resolution x-ray diffraction.

Nice-to-haves

  • A minimum of four scientific publications in journals of repute.
