About The Position

The Post-Doctoral Associate will lead onion breeding and pre-breeding research in a start-up setting, which is a relatively new breeding program that is time demanding. The role requires demonstrated knowledge of onion breeding methods, designing onion breeding blocks, and setting up onion pre-breeding experiments. The candidate will handle and operate molecular biology and high-throughput phenotyping equipment and tools, and must understand statistical and biometrics principles to be applied in breeding research. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, along with an interest in collaborative research and the ability to work in a multicultural team.

Requirements

  • PhD in Plant Breeding or equivalent topic.
  • Prior experience in onion breeding.
  • Demonstrated experience in disease resistance screening, genomic selection, and wet lab research.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in script writing using Python or R.
  • Experience in setting up cages for onion breeding crosses.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret metabolomics and transcriptomics data.
  • Ability to utilize genomic selection to identify novel QTLs from biparental mapping populations.
