About The Position

The Department of Pharmacology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Medicine invites applications for a post-doctoral research associate position in the UNC Metabolomics and Proteomics ( MAP ) Core Facility (proteomics-metabolomics.unc.edu). The post-doc will work collaboratively with team members at the MAP Core facility and UNC researchers (faculty, post-docs, graduate students) to facilitate metabolomics and proteomics research. The post-doc will have the opportunity to contribute to developing our metabolomics lab. As a core facility, we contribute to a variety of projects in collaboration with UNC researchers involved in drug discovery, nutrition, and cancer research. Specific focus will be on developing and implementing methods for novel applications, and with general direction of a senior or principal researcher, lead components of a larger research project or program. Contributions will include meeting with collaborators to discuss projects, developing experimental design, wet-lab method development, sample preparation, LC-MS method development and analysis, thorough data analysis and writing reports. To establish internal partnerships with research colleagues, actively develop external contacts and networks relevant to the project and for future funding opportunities.

Requirements

  • Experience in the field of mass spectrometry-based proteomics or metabolomics is required.
  • Hands-on experience with wet-lab optimization and method development for metabolomics and/or proteomics.
  • The aptitude to lead in a team environment and mentor co-workers.
  • The ability to analyze data independently, problem solve and work on multiple projects at the same time is required.
  • Research experience in the field of specialization with demonstrated knowledge of equipment, biochemical laboratory techniques and procedures, and methods of analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to operate and maintain LC-MS instruments, specifically Thermo Fisher mass spectrometry instruments (triple quadrupoles and Orbitraps) is desired.
  • Experience with interpreting high-resolution mass spectrometry data is preferred.
