About The Position

KENTECH Consulting Inc. has been selected as a background investigation vendor for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro). We are seeking experienced, California-based Background Investigators to conduct pre-employment background investigations for public safety, security, and sworn personnel. This role is project-based and case-driven, with work assigned based on availability, experience, and scope. Investigators may be assigned cases across the following categories: Sworn Personnel (POST-compliant background investigations) Public Safety Dispatchers Security Management / Supervisory Roles Security Officers (Fast Track investigations) Discovery or follow-up investigations related to unforeseen or disqualifying information Work may include, but is not limited to: Candidate interviews (in person or remote, depending on case) Reference interviews Employment and education verification Criminal history and records review Residence verification and neighborhood canvassing when required Social media and open-source review in compliance with applicable laws Accurate, thorough, and timely report writing aligned with POST standards Coordination with KENTECH project management and quality review teams This position is a 1099 independent contractor role. Investigators: Are paid per case or approved hourly work May accept or decline assignments based on availability Set their own schedules within case deadlines May provide services to other clients or agencies

Requirements

  • Active California Private Investigator license
  • POST Background Investigator certification (required for sworn cases)
  • Minimum five years of experience conducting pre-employment background investigations for law enforcement or public safety agencies
  • Strong knowledge of POST standards, Government Code sections 1031 and 1029, and applicable employment laws
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork within Los Angeles County when required
  • Excellent written communication and report-writing skills
  • Ability to manage multiple cases independently and meet deadlines
  • Comfort working in a remote, case-based environment
