Description This is the third career level in engineering and represents a shift from learning and assisting to fully contributing in assignments that are broader, more complex, and challenging in nature. The key role of this engineering position is to move from learning and assisting others to fully contributing. The CTCT division (a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar) develops positioning, control, and automation products for earthmoving and paving machines in the construction and mining industries, using technologies such as GNSS, optical total stations, lasers and sonics. The products are used in a range of applications where the operator of the machine benefits from having accurate horizontal and vertical guidance. Requirements

  • Process Management: Knowledge of business process improvement tools and techniques; ability to understand, monitor, update, control, or enhance existing business or work processes. Level Working Knowledge: • Employs process flows, cycle time, process time and waste concepts as appropriate. • Walks through steps, decisions, measurements, dependencies and hand-offs for a specific process. • Creates process flow or work flow diagrams. • Documents types of process decisions and potential impact of each decision. • Identifies and monitors common process bottlenecks.
  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision. Level Working Knowledge: • Accurately gauges the impact and cost of errors, omissions, and oversights. • Utilizes specific approaches and tools for checking and cross-checking outputs. • Processes limited amounts of detailed information with good accuracy. • Learns from mistakes and applies lessons learned. • Develops and uses checklists to ensure that information goes out error-free.

  • Master’s degree in an Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum

Responsibilities

  • Development of Positioning and Control algorithms for a system utilizing Simulink models and C++ software
  • Perform simulations to validate model development
  • Creating automated software tests
  • Writing, maintaining and archiving design documents, models, source code and other work products necessary for the project
  • Communicate designs and analysis results to customers, suppliers, team members, and other stakeholders
  • Contribute to the design of new products and processes; perform product and process maintenance
