The Opportunity: The Portfolio Management Group (PMG) is responsible for the end‑to-end design, construction and management of Hamilton Lane’s discretionary portfolios, from initial proposal through implementation, ongoing monitoring and eventual wind‑down. Sitting at the intersection of client solutions, investments and operations, PMG translates client objectives into actionable portfolio strategies, manages pacing and portfolio construction, and oversees the analytics, governance and processes that ensure portfolios remain aligned with client objectives, risk parameters and mandate constraints as they evolve. The team combines deep private markets expertise with rigorous data and portfolio analysis to deliver scalable, repeatable portfolio solutions aligned with client goals. We are seeking an Analyst to join PMG within the Portfolio Implementation & Oversight vertical. This function serves as the operational and governance backbone of portfolio management—designing and refining the frameworks, processes and controls that ensure portfolio decisions are implemented consistently, efficiently and in alignment with client objectives, regulatory requirements and Hamilton Lane’s fiduciary standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree; quantitative, finance, economics, or related disciplines a plus; 3.3+ GPA preferred.
  • Familiarity with private markets (private equity, private credit, real assets and/or secondaries) and strong interest in portfolio management.
  • Solid understanding of core financial concepts and calculations (e.g., IRR/MOIC, NAV, commitment vs. deployed, exposure).
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, basic modeling); interest in or exposure to Power BI or similar analytics tools is a plus.
  • High attention to detail and comfort managing multiple workstreams and deadlines across a portfolio lifecycle.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to summarize complex information clearly.
  • Demonstrated work ethic and professional demeanor, with willingness to own tasks and follow them through to completion.
  • Team‑oriented mindset and ability to work productively across multiple verticals (investments, operations, technology, client coverage).
  • Willingness to work 50+ hours per week in a fast‑paced, transaction‑driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support end-to-end investment execution workflows across asset classes by coordinating across functions and escalating issues as needed
  • Monitor portfolio mandates, guidelines and restrictions in internal systems and help ensure accuracy across downstream tools, controls and processes
  • Assist in preparing materials for audits, regulatory reviews, and oversight requests, including gathering data, documentation, and process descriptions
  • Support key PMG technology products by managing internal requests, validating data quality, and supporting ongoing maintenance and enhancement
  • Help maintain and enhance standard operating procedures, checklists, and controls that govern portfolio implementation and oversight.
  • Build and maintain reporting and analytics (primarily in Excel and Power BI) that provide transparency into PMG processes, portfolio activity and key metrics
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement efforts, identifying inefficiencies, proposing enhancements, and helping to test and roll out new workflows
