The Portfolio Accounting Intern serves an important role supporting the Portfolio Accounting team. In this role, you will assist with the consolidations and monthly close functions, financial statement preparation and tie-outs, gathering audit support, budgets and reforecasts, cash analysis, bank reconciliations, and other various projects. This is a part-time internship opportunity located in Chicago, IL for Summer 2026. How you will contribute to our team: Accounting: You will contribute to the daily and monthly accounting activities including financial statements for multi-family properties and simple joint ventures, supporting schedules for balance sheet accounts, g/l classifications, cash distributions, bank reconciliations, property-level performance returns, and reporting. Platform Growth: You will assist with acquisition and disposition closing and documentation review including reviewing loan agreements, operating agreements, budgets, and certifications. You will also assist in the Yardi setup for acquisitions and deactivation for dispositions. Overall: You’ll be an excellent teammate who helps create and deliver departmental and organizational goals, including refining and introducing new Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s). What our ideal candidate looks like: You have some credentials. You are a current undergraduate or graduate student working towards a degree is required. If you’re pursuing a degree in accounting or finance, it’s a huge plus! You’re a great communicator. You easily manage relationships and build rapport with others, and you’re a pro at keeping everyone informed and on the same page in a professional manner. You excel at details. You constantly analyze the fine print and make sure that your work product is highly accurate. You’re very tech savvy. You’d consider yourself an advanced user of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word and Outlook. You like change; you really like change. You can easily adapt as the situation warrants, and you are able to focus on multiple deadlines and change as the demands and fast pace requires. Why Waterton? Typical Base Pay Range: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour This pay range is an approximate base pay only, and the actual pay may vary depending on related work experience, certifications, education, and other job-related factors.
