About The Position

Porters and Stewards play an essential role in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of Shedd Aquarium's restaurant. As a Porter/Steward, you will support the culinary team by ensuring all areas, including kitchens, dining areas, and storage spaces, remain clean, safe, and well-organized. The Porter/Steward will maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen areas by performing tasks such as dishwashing, equipment cleaning, trash disposal, and food storage organization. You will support the kitchen team by keeping workspaces free from clutter, properly handling dishware and utensils, and ensuring compliance with Sodexo Live!'s health and safety standards. This role requires teamwork, efficiency, and a strong commitment to cleanliness and organization in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning & Sanitation: Wash and sanitize dishes, cookware, utensils, and other kitchen equipment following established procedures.
  • Maintain clean and organized dining and preparation areas in compliance with health and safety guidelines.
  • Organization & Inventory: Assist in the storage and organization of food items, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ensure items are properly labeled and stored in designated areas, rotating stock as needed.
  • Waste Management: Properly dispose of trash and recyclables in designated areas and ensure bins are emptied regularly to maintain a clean environment.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and functionality of dishwashing machines, sinks, and other kitchen equipment.
  • Report any malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Support for Overall Team: Assist chefs and kitchen staff by ensuring they have access to clean dishware, utensils, and workstations, allowing them to focus on food preparation and guest service.
  • Communication & Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, supporting colleagues and maintaining a positive work environment.
  • Cleanliness & Sanitation: Maintain cleanliness in food prep areas and adhere to all food safety and sanitation standards, ensuring a safe environment for both guests and team members.
