About The Position
The New York Public Library (NYPL) is seeking a dedicated Porter to join our Facilities Department. This role is essential in maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for our library users and employees. The Porter will work under the general supervision of the Operations Supervisor and/or Building Manager, ensuring that all assigned areas within and around NYPL buildings are kept in pristine condition. This includes a variety of cleaning tasks such as sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing floors, as well as vacuuming and shampooing carpets. The Porter will also be responsible for dusting furniture, bookshelves, and equipment, handling snow removal, and transporting trash or discarded materials to the disposal area. Additionally, the Porter may be required to move, remove, or set up furniture for special functions as directed and may be assigned to any NYPL building as needed. The NYPL has a rich history of providing free access to books, information, and education for over a century, and our facilities are being transformed into centers of educational innovation and community service. As a Porter, you will play a vital role in this transformation by ensuring that our spaces are welcoming and well-maintained.
