The Port laborer will be responsible for all phases of work related to cargo loading and unloading. They must transfer cargo to/from safely and efficiently as a rigger or light equipment operator, as well as lashing/securing cargo. Also responsible for cargo inspection, and marking down any damaged or lost items, must respond to oil/petroleum spills or uneven terrain under varying weather conditions, perform in confined workspaces, inside tanks of varying dimensions. Must be able to keep track of cargo inventory and document irregularities. Loading and unloading requires knowledge of loading equipment, such as forklifts, trucks and skid steers, the proper techniques for lifting and stowing cargo, and correct handling of hazardous materials. In addition, workers must be able to follow orders attentively and keep work areas clean.
