Position Summary Comprehensive understanding of port and inland dispatch drayage operations. Dispatch containers in accordance to workload and organize, strategize, and prioritize the driver pool when routing. Current Dispatch types are Local, Inland Empire, Long Haul and Prepull (taken to Yard or any Depot). Minimize operational costs through productivity and cost related to demurrage / per diem of containers and chassis. Maintain communication with Customer Service to verify and resolve customer and/or shipper customer service issues. Ensure Transportation Management System is properly updated timely and for accuracy. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Have a solid understanding of intermodal drayage (Port/Terminals). Understanding of empty receiving requirements to facilitate timely return and per diem mitigation. Become familiar with all terminal congestion timeframes. Maintain dispatch system accuracy and in live status; ensure work is properly updated and reflected in the TMS. Monitor import and/or export container termination status updates from port websites, call centers, and/or steamship lines tools/websites Understand the responsibilities and differences between employee drivers and Owner Operators. Understand that Owner Operators can reject workload when offered. Have a thorough understanding of Owner Operators contract guidelines. Must have thorough understanding of Logbooks and Hours of Service compliance requirements. Actively monitor dispatched shipments for on time completion Thorough knowledge of all customer account requirements to support drivers when being routed to locations. Execute any needed Dispatch reports depending on the defined requirements. Maintain continuous and proactive communication with Management. Report any issues when applicable. Monitor real time driver activity via applicable GPS system Become proficient, report errors and may execute task via applicable software systems. Effectively collaborates with the Customer Service team to meet or exceed our customer’s expectations. Professional and respectful etiquette with drivers and internal / external customers. Manages email. Attend meetings when required. Meet designated KPIs weekly, monthly, and quarterly, according to Company policies. Other tasks and duties, as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Education and/or Experience Fifth year college or university program certificate; or one to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Bilingual in English/Spanish strongly desired. Mathematical Skills Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Reasoning Ability Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook. Trinium experience is preferred.
