About The Position

Responsible for the efficient and effective processing of patients completing wellness visit care, scheduling appointments and performing outreach to patients prior to their appointment to obtain clinical information and to coordinate care. Also responsible for addressing care gaps and assisting patients to obtain needed services.

  • Relevant clinical experience within the past 5 years; if no clinical experience, completion of medical assistant program in past two years.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program, including an externship OR a minimum of 5 years of Sparrow medical assistant experience in a clinical capacity
  • Ability to provide care for patients, which is age specific to their physical and safety needs, psychosocial concerns and educational level.
  • Necessary visual and auditory acuity required to monitor patient's condition and operate department equipment
  • Demonstrates a positive team attitude and has interpersonal skills to effectively and appropriately communicate with clients, their families, providers and co-workers.
  • Ability to work in an EMR environment

Nice To Haves

  • Previous work experience in medical office setting.
  • MA Certification.
  • Experience with an EMR.

Responsibilities

  • Completes scheduling for multiple providers according to insurance specifications and provider preferences, including filling cancellation slots
  • Provides telephonic outreach to patients to establish expectations for the wellness visit and obtain necessary clinical updates from the patient
  • Performs various screenings and questionnaires verbally with the patient and/or caregiver
  • Updates relevant patient information in the medical record
  • Reviews needed testing/screening procedures and engages patients to complete these tasks
  • Orders necessary referrals and testing according to standing orders when appropriate
  • Engages and helps promote patient/family teaching as appropriate; and provides an educational environment for patients and patient families.
  • Works gaps in care registries to help improve the quality of care and performs outreach to patients needed to close gaps.
  • Communicates patient needs/questions to appropriate care team members in a timely and effective manner
  • Maintains department standards by participating in in-services, committees, etc. May assist in developing and implementing quality control and practice policies.
  • Assists with care coordination within the health system and the greater community
